For the Love of Nomadland

This video is about the influence the movie Nomadland has had on my life — and on so many others.
When I first saw the film, I thought it was pure ...fiction. But after doing some research, I discovered that this lifestyle is very real — and that Bob Wells, who appears in the movie, is an actual person.
I began watching his YouTube channel and became fascinated by the nomadic way of life. That led me down a path of discovering other van life creators, like Wandering Jeepsy, Lex and Riot, Matty Van Halen, Adventures with Amanda, Lady Ferns, and many more.
This past winter, I had the chance to stay in Quartzsite, Arizona — the heart of the van life community. It was incredible to experience firsthand the lifestyle that Nomadland opened my eyes to.

First up is Friday.
Friday is a classic 1995 American buddy stoner comedy directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh.
The film follows Craig Jones, played by Ice Cube, and his fast-talking friend Smokey, played by Chris Tucker, as they spend a chaotic Friday in their neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles.
After Craig loses his job and Smokey gets into trouble with a local drug dealer, the two try to come up with $200 by the end of the day while dealing with eccentric neighbors, bullies, and plenty of hilarious misadventures.

Another great watch is The Hollywood Knights.
The story takes place entirely on Halloween night in 1965. The Hollywood Knights, a drag-racing and social club, learn that their favorite local hangout, Tubby’s Drive-In, is being demolished to make way for an office building.
Led by the frenetic and prank-loving Newbomb Turk, the club spends the night wreaking havoc on the town, targeting bumbling police officers and local snobs as a final act of rebellion.
Along the way, the story mixes comedy with subplots involving romantic tensions between members and their girlfriends, as well as a more serious storyline about a member preparing to leave for the Vietnam War.

Next up is the classic animated series Speed Racer.
The series was created by Tatsuo Yoshida in 1966 and was inspired in part by the gadgetry of James Bond and the style and charisma of Elvis Presley.
The story follows Speed Racer—known as Go Mifune in Japan—along with his girlfriend Trixie, his father Pops Racer, his mother Mom Racer, and his younger brother Spritle. Spritle is often accompanied by his mischievous pet chimpanzee, Chim-Chim.
A recurring character is Racer X, a mysterious rival who often secretly helps Speed. Over time, it is revealed that Racer X is actually Speed’s long-lost older brother, Rex Racer.

Finally, there’s Heavy Metal.
Heavy Metal is a 1981 adult animated science-fantasy anthology film produced by Ivan Reitman and directed by Gerald Potterton.
The film is based on stories from Heavy Metal magazine and became a significant cult classic. Its different segments are tied together by a framing story involving a glowing green orb of ultimate evil known as the Loc-Nar.
The movie is known for its distinctive animation styles, mature themes, and a legendary rock soundtrack that helped define its cult status.

Next is Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip.
This performance by Richard Pryor is widely considered one of the greatest stand-up comedy sets in history.
It was filmed at the Hollywood Palladium and marked Pryor’s return to the stage following his near-fatal 1980 freebasing accident. His performance blends deeply personal storytelling with sharp social commentary and raw humor.Show More
